Elderflower cordial, sparkling water, cucumber & lime
Elderflower grows across Britain and Northern Europe, blooming for three precious weeks in late May and early June. It has been harvested for cordials, wines, and medicinal preparations for centuries. The modern elderflower spritz became Britain's signature non-alcoholic drink in the late 1990s when Bottlegreen and Belvoir began producing premium cordials.
Premium elderflower cordials (Bottlegreen, Belvoir, Fever-Tree) make a significant difference. For a more sophisticated version, add a sprig of fresh mint and replace tonic with sparkling water. In late spring when elderflowers are in bloom, fresh elderflower cordial made at home is incomparably better than any bottled version.
