About This Drink

Hidden Flask in Woodbridge NJ is a casual Indian gastropub with a cocktail programme built for a wide audience — deep enough for cocktail enthusiasts, accessible enough for first-timers. Innocent Angel is their zero-proof menu anchor: pomegranate (dana-e-zeytoon in Persian, anar in Hindi), an ingredient shared by Persian, Mughal, and modern Indian cooking, paired with lychee's tropical sweetness. The result is a drink that tastes like it should be more complicated than it is.

Full pomegranate juice (100% juice, not a cocktail mixer) is important — the bitter pomegranate tannins provide the drink's structure. If using fresh pomegranate, juice it by rolling the whole fruit on a counter, cutting in half, and pressing gently (like a citrus). The lychee and pomegranate seeds can both be from cans — both work well year-round.

NJ's most inventive Indian-American cocktail programme

Hidden Flask in Woodbridge, NJ, is the Indian-American cocktail bar New Jersey didn't know it needed. The menu walks the line between the subcontinent and the American bar tradition — chai martinis, masala old fashioneds, and house spice-infused spirits that taste like they were invented by someone who grew up with both Old Monk and Jim Beam in the house.
