About This Drink

Lychee (litchi) cultivation in India dates back centuries, with the finest varieties grown in Muzaffarpur (Bihar) and the foothills of Uttarakhand. The fruit's combination of delicate floral sweetness with a faint musky note makes it a natural cocktail ingredient — it carries all the aromatics of a rose water without needing any additives. GupShup's Lychee ki Cooler ('lychee cooler' in Hindi) is the simplest expression of this: lychee, citrus, and a herbal zero-proof spirit as structure.

Fresh lychees from Indian or Chinese grocery stores in season (May–June) are incomparably better than canned — their texture and aroma are in another league. Canned lychees in syrup are a good year-round substitute; use the syrup from the can as your sweetener. Seedlip Garden 108 (with its hay, spearmint, and hop notes) bridges the lychee and citrus beautifully.

One of NYC's top Indian cocktail destinations

GupShup (meaning 'gossip' or 'chatter' in Hindi and Urdu) is a celebration of Indian social culture through food and drink. The cocktail menu draws from the full breadth of the subcontinent — paan-inspired drinks, lassi riffs, spiced old fashioneds — with an energy that matches the name. One of the most vibrant Indian drinking experiences in New York City.
