About This Drink

GupShup's approach to the classic mango lassi is to ask: what if we treated it like a cocktail? The answer is to add Indian green chili as a heat element that cuts through the yogurt's richness and gives the sweet mango a dimension it lacks on its own. The result is a drink that behaves like a Bloody Mary in terms of complexity — creamy, sweet, hot, cooling all at once.

Remove the chili seeds for a milder heat; leave them in for a proper burn. Alphonso mango purée (from a can) works beautifully year-round. The kala namak is essential — it counterpoints the sweetness perfectly. For a lighter version, use regular yogurt with 50ml milk. Serve immediately — the yogurt separates if left standing.

One of NYC's top Indian cocktail destinations

GupShup (meaning 'gossip' or 'chatter' in Hindi and Urdu) is a celebration of Indian social culture through food and drink. The cocktail menu draws from the full breadth of the subcontinent — paan-inspired drinks, lassi riffs, spiced old fashioneds — with an energy that matches the name. One of the most vibrant Indian drinking experiences in New York City.
