About This Drink

Limca is India's indigenous lemon-lime soda, created in 1971 by Parle Agro and now owned by Coca-Cola. Its flavour is more aggressively citrus-forward than Sprite or 7UP, and it has been India's preferred mixer for non-alcoholic drinks for over 50 years. Masala soda — Limca with black salt and chaat masala — is the quintessential Indian street refresher, sold from scratch at juice stalls or in the ready-to-drink forms available at convenience stores across the country.

Limca is available at Indian grocery stores and online. The kala namak (black salt) must be present — it transforms this from just a soda into something Indian. The chaat masala gives it the amchoor-cumin savouriness that every street version has. For a spiced version, add a pinch of Kashmiri chilli powder. This is also an excellent mixer with vodka for a quick Indian cocktail.
